Major General Erhard Bühler was born on 20 January 1956, in Aichach, Germany. His military career began in July 1976, when he entered into service (Bundeswehr) in Maintenance Battalion 4, located in Hemau. In 1976 he started in Aachen the training to become an officer. From 1977 – 1981 he studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg.In 1982 he served as an Engineer Officer in Signal Battalion 6, Neumünster. In 1984 he became a Company Commander at the Maintenance Training Company 5/1 in Wolfenbüttel. In 1987 he became Chief Instructor for the Training of officer candidates at Engineering School of the Army, Aachen. 1988 he completed the Command and General Staff Officer Training (31st General Staff Officer Course, Federal Armed Forces College) in Hamburg. 1990 he served as the Assistant Chief of Branch with the Armed Forces Staff and as Staff Officer with the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Staff Division II (Military Intelligence) at the Federal Ministry of Defense, Bonn. In 1992 he attended the US Command and General Staff Officer Training at the Command and General Staff College Ft. Leavenworth/Kansas, USA.Other assignments include G3 Staff Officer, Staff I. Corps Münster, 1993.In 1995 he became a Commander of Maintenance Battalion 11 in Delmenhorst. 1998 he served as the Assistant Chief of Branch in the office of State Secretary Dr. Wichert, Federal Ministry of Defense, Bonn. Further assignments include Chief of Branch G 3, Staff IV. Corps Potsdam, 1999; and Chief of Branch in the Army Staff, Army Staff III 2 (Concepts and Army Development), Federal Ministry of Defense Bonn, 2000.In April 2001 he became the Adjutant of the Federal Minister of Defense, Rudolf Scharping in Berlin and with July 2002 he became the Adjutant of the Federal Minister of Defense, Dr. Peter Struck, in Berlin. In August 2003 he became Commander of the Armored Brigade 12, located in Amberg. From May to November 2004 he served as Commander of the 9th German KFOR Contingent in Prizren, Kosovo.From 2006 – 2008, he was Deputy Chief of Staff V (Federal Armed Forces Operations) in the Armed Forces Staff, Federal Ministry of Defense, Bonn. After the reorganisation in 2008 he was Head of the Operations Staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense, Berlin.His last assignment was as Commander of the 10th Armored Division in Sigmaringen (since August 2009).Beginning with 1st September 2010 he is Commander of Kosovo Force, Pristina.
